Moving Utah into the Future
I’m running for the Utah House of Representatives from District 5 to provide leadership and ideas in moving Utah into the future. The challenges we now face are unlike anything this generation has ever seen, and I firmly believe that Utah’s lawmakers have to deal with issues and set priorities in three distinct areas:
(1) One priority is dealing with Utah’s largest problem, which is the Federal Government’s encroachment on State Sovereignty and the freedoms and liberties of the people. These encroachments involve land within Utah’s borders and the need to secure the natural resources, energy, and water that are associated with the land. These encroachments also involve entitlement programs such as healthcare, welfare, education, and those programs that are deceivingly breaking apart families and family values. This priority also involves 2nd Amendment Gun Rights, overburdening and foolish environmental controls, immigration issues, taxation, and the soon to arrive burden of "skyrocketing" costs for electricity and natural gas.
(2) Another priority is to prepare Utah for hardships that lie ahead. Every community in Utah should be working towards self-reliance through some form of energy independence and means of support if it should be cut off and become isolated from the blessings of interstate commerce. Steps need to be taken to (1) prepare for a national currency collapse where Utah can quickly restore some semblance of an economy and (2) prepare State Government to provide continuing public safety, whatever may occur.
(3) The status quo has been to maintain balanced budgets and deal with abundant amounts of proposed legislation without proper application of constitutional principles. Past legislative sessions have maintained balanced budgets, which is good, but the lack of constitutional judgment applied to other legislation is lacking, leaving Utahns with less and less freedom to make choices. Remember, once a law is brought into existence, the right to make a legal choice on that issue is gone. A third priority will be to bring constitutional leadership to the House of Representatives by applying constitutional principles to all proposed legislation.
We need to act now and prepare for what is coming, so our children and grandchildren may have a future where freedoms and liberties still exist, and so they may experience the blessings of those unalienable rights given by our Creator.
I ask for your vote on June 22nd.
Thank you, – Chuck Bateman
